Neyveli (TN), Dec 20 (PTI): More than 2,000 CPI members led by its Tamil Nadu unit secretary D Pandian were arrested here today when they attempted to picket the Neyveli Lignite Corporation office here demanding allocation of entire quanity of power produced by the central PSU to the state. The protesters demanded that the entire 2,490 mw of power generated by the thermal units run by NLC be supplied to the state, facing acute power shortage. As the protesters, including party MLA Lingamuthu, marched toward the corporate office of the NLC, they were arrested by police led by DSP Uma. All of them have been lodged in marriage halls, police said. Pandian told reporters that the normal life of people in the state had been affected because of the shortage of power and water which required remedial steps not only by the state government but also the Centre. He accused the Centre of partialilty in supplying electricity to Tamil Nadu. A tem of Left party leaders will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh soon and take up the issue. PTI COR VS
