Bangalore, Nov 8 (PTI): The University of Kentucky today awarded three outstanding undergraduate Indian students highly competitive scholarships for 2012-2013 academic year to aid in their pursuit of a bachelor's degree. While Ron Mathias received a scholarship covering 50 per cent of his tuition, Abhishek Agrawal received a $5,000 scholarship, International Enrollment Manager Audra Cryder said. Harkabir Saluja received International Leadership Scholarship, covering full cost of his tuition during his undergraduate studies, Cryder said in a statement. The University awards scholarships to international students. Each year five to 10 W C Parker Diversity Scholarships are awarded to help them pursue degrees. Also,30 International Student Scholarships are awarded and incoming freshers have an opportunity to receive Academic Scholarships, some of which are automatic and others competitive. "I am so happy to have won this scholarship and am enjoying my studies at the University of Kentucky," Saluja, a freshman from New Delhi majoring in Philosophy, said. Mathias, a native of Mangalore is currently pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering and recipient of the International Distinction Scholarship, said he had a great time at the University. "The people here are accepting and open to new cultures and people from foreign countries. The campus is beautiful and has excellent facilities. The moment I got here I knew that the school spirit was infectious," Mathias said. Bangalore-born Agrawal,also a freshman said the transition to his new life went flawlessly and is excited for what his future holds. He is into Finance and chose to study at the University of Kentucky because of the positive regards it has received in terms of academics, sports and overall college experience. Cryder said the program takes into consideration factors that go beyond traditional academic merit. "We were pleasantly surprised with the diversity and caliber of our applicants and proud to award these scholarships to the most deserving students from nine different countries, including India," Cryder said.
