Consolidated revenue jumped over 38 percent to Rs 64,683 crore in the quarter ended June 2014 from Rs 46,796 crore in same quarter last year.
Tata Motors strongly beat street expectations with the first quarter consolidated net profit rising more than three-fold (212.7 percent) to Rs 5,398 crore driven by strong Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) performance. Profit in the year-ago period was Rs 1,726 crore.
Analysts had expected the company to report net profit of Rs 3,527 crore on revenue of Rs 62,535 crore for the quarter, according to CNBC-TV18 poll estimates.
Consolidated revenue jumped over 38 percent to Rs 64,683 crore in the quarter ended June 2014 from Rs 46,796 crore in same quarter last year, despite a continuing weak operating and economic environment in the standalone business which was more than offset by strong demand for new products, growth in volumes, richer product mix and richer geographic mix at JLR, said the company in its filing.
During the quarter, operating profit (EBITDA) of the company shot up 78.7 percent to Rs 11,142 crore and margin expanded by 390 basis points to 17.2 percent compared to corresponding quarter of last fiscal, which both were stronger than analysts' expectations of Rs 9,602 crore and 15.5 percent, respectively.
Tata Motors' subsidiary and luxury car maker JLR has reported a 30.8 percent growth in revenues year-on-year to pound 5.35 billion led by strong sales growth. Revenue in the same quarter last year was pound 4.09 billion and analysts had expected it at pound 5.21 billion.
Jaguar Land Rover wholesale and retail volumes for the quarter grew by 27.1 percent and 22 percent year-on-year to 1,15,156 units and 1,15,596 units, respectively. "This reflects solid global demand for the new and refreshed Jaguar and Land Rover line up, particularly for the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Evoque and the Jaguar F-Type," the company reasoned.
